                                             GRAY MUZZLE AWARD

In 2008, the Leonberger Health Foundation laid the foundation for the Gray Muzzle Award. This is an award
that, beginning in 2008 and to continue every year thereafter, honors any Leonberger who reached the
  age of 12 years.

In 2008 there were 14 Leonbergers who were honored. In 2009 there were 11 who were honored.
This award is presented every year at the LCA National Specialty in the form of a certificate with the
dog's picture, his date of birth and the names of his owners and breeder. A certificate is given to the
owners and breeders alike for each dog.
It is truly a joy to celebrate these dogs who have reached such a distinguished age.  Each owner
composes a tribute to his dog which is then read aloud at the National. It's a moving event.

If you are one of the lucky people with a Leo 12 years old or older, please allow us to honor your dog and you
with a Gray Muzzle Award.  Send your information and a good photo to Sue at:

Enjoy the gallery of faces, some more gray than others, but each one precious and representative
of a long, fulfilling life that left their families filled with wondrous memories. These dogs provide each
of us with the knowledge that Leonbergers can have a long lifespan, and for a giant breed, 12 years
   is truly a miracle.
